Real Mouse Traps

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

When I used to play with the Mouse Trap board game as a kid, I assumed it was regarded as a heap of fun. Not only was Mousetrap a great board game, but it also has some glorious props.

Essentially watching the toy mouse trap spring was always exciting to watch. Working with real mouse traps is a different story entirely. When I grew up, we never had a rodent problem, but as fast as I moved out that changed. The firstĀ  house I lived in was in NY, and rodents were definitely an issue. Finding method of rodent control was of supreme significance. It has usually been claimed that there’s no better way to battle rodents than with a good pussy. Sadly , the building I was living in did not permit pets.

We had to get by with good oldĀ  mousetraps. We started by putting them all along the baseboards, but we had some successes. Allegedly, we hadn’t worked out where the mice were coming from. He saw a little hole in the wall, manifestly burrowed out by mice. We look around the area and found some more about the other side of the room. Now that we knew the way in which the mice were getting in, we may be smarter about catching them. We had plenty of argument about what style of mouse trap to get. We had a discussion about whether a no kill mouse trap was a smart idea. Some folks declared that they were equally as good as slaughtering the mice, without the brutality.

People claimed that, if you did not kill them, they might get right back to the house. In the final analysis, we made a decision on a rather high tech solution. We got an electrical powered trap that would zap mice or rats quickly and painlessly. We had taken care of the mice inside a pair weeks, and the rats a bit after that.

Now all we had to fret about was the cockroaches.
